Cats Can Also Learn Commands

Everyone has abandoned that idea that cats are independent and meet alone, right? If not, it’s good to see their concepts. Cats also need interaction with people from home, entertainment and stimuli to play, exercise and have a healthy life. Among the many activities that we can provide to our Kitty, teach commands is a quite interesting and challenging.

The commands are playful ways of stimulating physically and mentally the your pussycat, in addition to improving the relationship between you and him. Depending on the cat and the situation, some commands can also be quite useful. But, before you start to try the commands with him, you need to think of a few things:

Find out and separate a morsel that it has a lot of interest. This will be his reward for making the command that you want to perform. As the kitten is learning, you will no longer need to use always this same snack.
Be patient and don’t try to force the kitty to make the command that you want. Force will make the activity a nuisance, not a pleasurable interaction. Do short sessions of training is also important for the cat didn’t lose motivation.
All commands need repetition to be well assimilated by the animal. The more you train, the better he will learn – respecting the issue of motivation cited above.
First, teach the command and, after he already know do, begin to associate with a verbal command. Start talking about “sit”, for example, will not make him understand.
Your cat may not feel scared, or bothered by your approach or touch. If you have a pet not sociable or aggressive at home, you need to train it before teaching the commands to avoid accidents.
Have a hit counter: a clicker, equipment found in pet shops that emits a popping, or take a snap with the mouth. If you’re going to do with the mouth, prefer a sound you don’t do normally in your daily life. This crack will have the same meaning as a compliment “you nailed it!”, but much more fast and precise.

Ready, you can start training your kitten. We use induction to teach what we’re looking for behavior that he does. Try these basic commands:

SENTA

Hold the snack with the fingers and position just above the muzzle. Slowly, taking your hand go with the snack back, so that he has to lift his head to follow. This will be the induction so that he feels. As soon as he sit, please click with your mouth or clicker to indicate the setting and release the snack as a reward.

GIVE PAW

As the cat uses your hands naturally to get interesting things, let’s use that. Let the snack in the Palm of your hand and place in front of the cat. If he tries to get his mouth, take your hand away. If it uses the paw to try to get the snack, please click once he touch your hand and release the snack for him. Be careful with the cat’s nails to not get hurt, especially if he is very excited about the snack.

THROW

The induction is similar to SIT. Hold the snack with your fingers and place in front of the muzzle. Slowly, taking your hand go with the snack down, touch the ground. So he goes to bed, just click and reward.

RISES

With your cat next to a piece of furniture or shelf, hold the snack with your fingers and take your hand over the object you want your cat climb. So he come up, please click and reward. Teaching the COME DOWN is very similar, however, leading down the object.

Understanding the logic of these simple commands, you can develop your own drills and commands with your Kitty. So, start now to train him and enjoy this fun and interactive activity with him. Good practice!
