Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law was founded in 1888 by the Illinois State Bar Association. The law school was originally named the Union College of Law and was located at the corner of LaSalle and Jackson Streets in downtown Chicago. The school moved to its current location on the main campus of IIT in 1969 and was renamed Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Since its founding, Chicago-Kent has grown to become one of the most respected law schools in the nation, consistently ranked among the top tier of American law schools by U.S. News & World Report. It is also one of only two Illinois law schools with a chapter of Order of the Coif, a national legal honor society recognizing excellence in legal education.
