Rutgers School of Law – Camden was founded in 1950 as the South Jersey Law School. The school was established to provide access to legal education in the southern part of New Jersey, as there were no other law schools in the area at that time. Initially, the school was housed in a building on Cooper Street in Camden and had just twenty-four students. In 1952, Rutgers University took over the school and changed its name to Rutgers School of Law – Camden.

Since then, Rutgers School of Law – Camden has experienced tremendous growth and development. In 1960, the school moved to its current location on Fifth Street in downtown Camden. During this time period, enrollment increased significantly and new faculty members were added to the faculty roster. Over the next few decades, Rutgers School of Law – Camden continued to expand its curriculum offerings and student body size. In 2004, it opened its doors to international students and began offering a joint degree program with nearby Rowan University in 2008. The following year saw construction begin on a new building for the law school which was completed in 2012. Career services operations Career Services provides career counseling with five staff members to assist students and alumni in achieving their professional goals. Over 200 national and regional law firms interview 2 and 3Ls. The School is also among the leaders in the percentage of graduates who accept clerkships with federal and state judges.
