About Delaware
Delaware is the second smallest state in the United States, only Rhode Island is smaller. It is also the least populous state in the country with only 990,000 inhabitants. What is it big in? Business, thanks in part to its favorable business law, more than 1 million companies are registered here. The state has a Dutch and Swedish colonial past and had a dubious role in the field of slavery. It rejected the abolition of slavery after the American Civil War and only ratified it 35 years later as America’s third last state. The capital Dover is more of a small, historic village with only 36,000 inhabitants. Rehoboth Beach is a favorite beach vacation destination. The state does not have a National Park but does have the First State National Historical Park, consisting of historic sites that played a role in the creation of the United States of America. Delaware does not have a major airport, Philadelphia International Airport (in the state of Pennsylvania) is the nearest airport.
