About Michigan
The state of Michigan is located on no fewer than four large freshwater lakes, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. This state has more than 5000 kilometers of coastlines. The largest island in Lake Superior, Isle Royale is the state’s only National Park. Here you can walk, hike, backpack, fish and kayak around the island or on Lake Siskiwit. The largest and most famous city in Michigan is Detroit, known and infamous for its car industry, high crime rate and the creation of Motown Records. Detroit went bankrupt in 2013. The town of Holland on Lake Michigan, as the name suggests, has many Dutch roots and organizes a large tulip festival every year. Michigan’s 2nd largest city, Grand Rapids, is less known to tourists, but the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is definitely worth a visit! With more than 200 waterfalls, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the pristine Porcupine Mountains, there is plenty of natural beauty to admire for nature lovers.
